FEET MOVE

Picture
Feet CAN move and SHOULD move.
I didn't realise this until about four years ago when I started my training in Restorative Exercise.

When our feet move, we improve our neurological, lymphatic and blood flow.

When our feet move, we mobilise the many joints and soft tissues which otherwise respectively stiffen and atrophy.

To bring movement to our feet, the easiest thing is to spend some time barefoot and exposing our feet to various natural textures.

Easy to do in the summer, but what about the winter?

Winter is the time to be more inventive!

My strategies to maintain my foot mobility during the colder months include: toe alignment socks, toe spreaders, balls, stones, self-massage, brief barefoot time outdoors and feet-friendly footwear.

No 1: TOE ALIGNMENT SOCKS

A pair of alignment socks will help to spread your toes while you are relaxing - no extra time required! I wear these in the evenings and sometimes sleep in them.

No 2: TOE SPREADERS
You can wear them indoors or inside your shoes (if they are wide enough!). They are made of soft silicone.

No 3: FREE & NATURAL TOE SPREADERS
Whatever works!

No 4: BALLS
Balls can be of all shapes and sizes and will all move the 33 joints in each of your feet. when you apply pressure to different parts.

No 5: STONE BOX
This provides texture to the 33 joints in my feet. Can feel cold so good to pair with the alignment socks!

No 6: SELF-MASSAGE
It feels really nice to mobilise and massage your own toes and feet. It improves circulation and stimulates the nervous system.

No 7: BAREFOOT OUTDOORS FOR SHORT PERIODS
When I need to go in the garden briefly, or just for fun, I'll take my shoes off for a few seconds, for a quick boost to circulation. Only when I feel brave!

No 8: FEET-FRIENDLY SHOES
I choose sandals that let my feet and toes move and breathe and go barefoot as often as possible!

Thank you for reading!
