Do You Like Walking?

When my kids are asked if they like walking, they always say NO!

However, when walking is not done for the sake of walking, ie as a form of exercise, then they love it.

They loved walking all the way up Scarfell Pike last year.

They love walking when there's a GOOD ENOUGH REASON for it:
  • to get to the top of a hill and admire the view and get that sense of achievement.
  • to get something interesting from the shops - a new book or CD from the second-hand shop, something nice to eat.
  • to get somewhere by their own means, asserting their independence
  • to catch a glimpse of a deer, an owl or a fox.

I love walking with a purpose - to buy some local honey, to catch up with friends, to meet new people, to explore new areas, to get some fresh air, to get away from the computer, to slow down, to feel the sun on my face. to relax.

Walking is not exercise then.

It's pleasure.

It's fun.

It's a normal part of life.
