The Case For Toe Spreading

Picture
Passive and active toe spreading
Benefits of toe spreading:
  • a wider, more stable base of support leading to better balance
  • a chance for toe abductor muscles (atrophied by years of being squished in shoes with a narrow toe box) to contract and for adductor toe muscles to stretch, pumping fresh blood round
  • more relaxed toes
  • space for nerves to pass through and reach the end of your toes
  • space for blood vessels to reach all the way to the end of your toes
  • one of the first things to focus on towards restoring function to the feet and achieving a natural gait (walking with hip extension)

Shoes block this motion by "casting" your feet, preventing intrinsic foot muscles to participate in your movement

If you would like to take part in a future workshop on freeing your feet, please let me know.
Private sessions also available.

Mum of 4, nature lover, passionate about the power of human movement.

I love helping people walk more often and over greater distances more comfortably, enjoying the natural world. I love helping people feel better generally.

I wish to apply this quote to my blog:
"My suggestion is that you taste the message, savo(u)r what is right for you, and spit out the rest ; after all, that is the law of the universe". Source: Mutant message down under, Marlo Morgan.
