For feet to be pointing forward,
align the baby toe knuckle (fifth metatarsophalangeal joint) and the ankle bone (distal malleolus) from which you draw a line straight down to your foot.

No forcing this in walking - best to gradually bring your feet towards this alignment. 

The idea is to help your ankle articulate optimally up and down.
